£60,000 worth of damage caused in burglary that ended in flames in South Godstone – can you help?
Detectives are appealing for the public’s help after a property in South Godstone was devastated by an extensive burglary which ended with the suspects setting fire to the site.
Officers were called by colleagues from the fire service after a loud banging noise and fire was reported to them in the early hours of yesterday morning (Tuesday, 16 May). It is believed that suspects gained access to the site between approximately 03:40am and 04:40am during which they stole over £30,000 worth of climbing equipment and tools (some items shown in pictures). They then left the property in flames causing a further estimated £60,000 worth of damage.
Detective Constable Colin Snell who is investigating the incident said: “We believe this property has been targeted deliberately and are appealing to anyone who might have seen anything suspicious in the area. If you’ve been offered these tools for sale, please get in touch with us.”
“This burglary has resulted in significant financial loss but has also caused the property owners significant distress, if you think you have the information we need to bring those responsible to justice, I would urge you to come forward.”
