Police in Caterham are appealing for help from members of the public to identify a man whose body was found in the town yesterday (Wednesday, 11 January).

The discovery of the man, who was sadly declared dead at the scene in Croydon Road just after 3pm, was made by a member of the public.

The man is described as black, 5ft 6” tall, aged between 50 and 65-years-old and of a skinny build. He has very short grey Afro style hair with a receding hairline and short grey stubble. The man was wearing a black pork pie style hat, a casual light grey jacket, white shirt with black trousers and black shoes.

PC Wayne Stephens said: “This death is being treated as unexplained and we need to identify this man. I would ask anyone who may have seen or recognise the individual from this description to contact us as a matter of urgency. Maybe you were walking or driving along the B2208 Croydon Road sometime before the man’s body was located behind a wall. You may have seen him in the vicinity beforehand and can help with details.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Surrey Police on 101 quoting reference 45170003605 or you can use the online reporting system found at https://report.police.uk and enter the reference number in the ‘Additional information’ section.
