CCTV released following robbery at Tongham store
Do you recognise this man from this CCTV image? We would like to speak to him in connection with a robbery in Tongham.
The robbery took place at Tongham Food and Wine on Oxenden Road, Tongham on Friday (20 July). A man entered the shop shortly before 4.20 pm and demanded the member of staff open the till, threatening her with violence, before making off with around £200 in cash.
The man left the store through the main exit, and is believed to have run across Oxenden Road and into Carfax Avenue.
The suspect is described as white, aged in his late 20s or early 30s, approximately 6ft tall and of a slim build with blue eyes. He was wearing distinctive light blue jeans, a dark Puffa-style jacket, a black balaclava which was covering his face, and dark shoes.
Detective Constable Richard Pegden, who is investigating this incident, said: “This was a frightening incident for the member of staff. Thankfully, incidents of this nature are rare, but I would like to remind shop staff to always put their personal safety first.
“There is a strong possibility the suspect is local to the Tongham area, and I am appealing for any drivers who were using the Oxenden Road around this time, or anyone with any information, to contact police.
"We have released a CCTV image of a man we would like to speak to in connection with the offence - while we appreciate that you cannot see his face, we are hoping that the clothes worn by this individual, particularly with the current weather conditions, would have meant he stood out at the time.”
