Did you witness assault on two women in Guildford towpath?

Surrey Police is appealing for witnesses after two women were assaulted in Walnut Tree Close in Guildford yesterday, Thursday 2 February.

Between 8.20pm and 8.40pm, a 20-year-old woman was walking along the towpath between the footbridge and the Odeon cinema when an unknown man grabbed her, pushed her to the ground, attempted to kiss her before physically assaulting her. She sustained minor injuries to her face.

A 31-year-old woman on her bike who was passing by witnessed what happened and attempted to intervene when she was then assaulted by the man. She sustained minor superficial injuries to her face.

Detective Sergeant Dave Bentley from Guildford Criminal Investigation Department, said: “This was a seemingly random attack on two women who are understand extremely shaken up by this attack.

“I am urging anybody who witnessed the attack or saw a man acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the incident to call us as soon as possible – any information you have could assist our investigation.”

  • A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody.
