Police appeal for witnesses following aggravated burglary at Indian restaurant in Godalming

Surrey Police is appealing for witnesses following an aggravated burglary in the Farncombe area of Godalming last night, Monday 9 January 2017.

It is reported that at around 11.20pm two men wearing masks broke into an Indian restaurant in Long Gore shortly after closing time and seriously assaulted a man inside before making off.

The victim, a man in his 50s, sustained serious injuries to his head and is currently being treated at hospital.

A forensic examination of the scene is taking place today to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident.

Investigating Officer Detective Constable, Aodhan Lawrence, said: “I am urging anybody who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area around the time of the incident to call us as soon as possible.”

“At this stage it is unclear as to whether anything was stolen.”

Surrey Police is urging anybody with any information to report it to police as soon as possible, quoting 45170002951.

  • A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and is currently in police custody.
