Teacher sentenced to three years in prison for indecent image and voyeurism offences

A Chertsey man has been sentenced to three years in prison after a fast-time investigation by Surrey Police detectives from the Paedophile Online Investigation Team (POLIT).

David Allison, who was recently dismissed as an assistant head teacher, was arrested on 29 November following an intelligence-led search warrant at his home, relating to indecent images of children.

Officers swiftly examined numerous devices which revealed further offending. The 48-year-old was subsequently charged and remanded into custody on the 30 November, meaning there was no danger of further offending.

An investigation was conducted in conjunction with Surrey Children’s Services and the school as part of Surrey’s multi-agency safeguarding procedures.

Detective Inspector Martin Goodwin of POLIT said:

“At his address, we found multiple devices containing thousands of indecent images of children. We also recovered images of numerous children taken and recorded around the school. These indecent images showed the girls’ underwear and had been taken without their knowledge.

“In working with the school extensive work was carried out by detectives in order to identify victims and ensure that the children and their families could access any specialist support they needed.

“This man blatantly abused his position of trust, giving innocent pupils a false sense of security. He allowed them to believe they were safe from this sort of exploitation and deceived parents and work colleagues alike.

“We have now put a stop to his predatory behaviour and prevented him from continuing with his criminality.

“The sentencing of this individual sends a message to those abusing a position of trust that you will be caught. Whilst this won’t reverse what he has done, putting this man in prison will ensure his offending does not continue.”

He will now receive a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and be placed on the Sex Offenders register for life.

Victims of these crimes can seek support from the NSPCC Helpline 0808 800 5000 or the NHS Surrey & Borders Partnership Sexual Trauma Assessment, Recovery and Support (STARS) on 01372 203096.

We take all allegation of this nature very seriously and if you suspect anyone of committing offences like the ones mentioned here, please call us immediately on 101 (or always 999 in an emergency).

David Allison, of Shaw Close, Chertsey was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court today (26 January) having earlier pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children, one count of taking an indecent image of a child and two counts of voyeurism.
