Two people charged following serious assault in Maybury

Two people have been charged following a serious assault in Maybury on Monday night (31 July).

Shakil Rehman, 52, of Willow Way, Woking, and a 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were both charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm. They were both remanded in custody and are due to appear at Staines Magistrate’s Court today (2 August).

A man sustained significant injuries to his head, ribs and leg following the attack in Walton Road around 10.45pm. He remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses and would particularly like to hear from anyone who may have any mobile phone or dashcam footage of the incident.

Detective Sergeant Mark Butterworth, who is investigating the incident, said: “I would urge anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Walton Road area on Monday evening to come forward. Surrey Police takes these matters extremely seriously and any information which would help us progress the investigation would be hugely appreciated.”
