A man from Wandsworth has been sentenced to 10 years and 10 months in prison for causing life-threatening injuries to a man in Guildford last year.

Mohammed Abubaker, 26, of Ludovick Walk, was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court (12 April) for stabbing a man five times, intending to cause him serious bodily harm, on 5 July 2017.

The victim, a man in his 20s, arranged to meet with a friend on Oak Hill Road in Wood Street Village when Abubaker turned up and attacked him while the victim was sat in his car. Even as the victim attempted to run away and escape the attack, Abubaker continued to pursue him, stabbing him as he ran.

The victim was driven to hospital by his friends, arriving in a critical condition, he had been stabbed five times in different areas of his body and suffered huge blood loss. A swift investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department took place to locate who was responsible for the attack.

Detective Constable Richard Pegden, of the Criminal Investigation Department, said: “This was a brutal and ruthless attack and clear that the intention was to cause serious injury to the victim.

“The investigation consisted of a number of elements which required a real team effort, securing a charge for attempted murder. Abubaker plead guilty to causing Grievous Bodily Harm, on the second day of his trial, in February this year.

“Two cars which had been used in the incident were seized and the painstaking work of the forensic team meant that crucial evidence was found within both vehicles, placing Abubaker at the scene of the crime. A partially burnt mobile phone, which belonged to the victim, was also recovered near to the scene which enabled detectives to link the victim and Abubaker.

“I would like to thank the victim for speaking out and bravely reliving this terrible and violent ordeal. I hope that today’s outcome will give him the closure he deserves.

“Surrey Police do not tolerate the despicable behaviour that Abubaker showed on that night in July 2017, and we will do everything we can to ensure those who carry weapons, and use them, are brought to justice.”
